Best way to clean block before reinstalling caput gasket?
About to supervene upon my head gaskets at present that my heads are back from the machine shop, simply was just wondering what is the best mode to make clean off the block to ensure a good seal with the new head gasket? I've heard of people using sand paper simply that seems a little aggressive, is this ok to exercise? I tried steel wool but it didnt take much off..

And for cleaning:
I would scrape as much off as possible with a rozor blade, then use carb cleaner and a scotch bright pad... thats what I do on my quads..

If yous have a die grinder or drill get i of the Roloc discs with the little plastic fingers on information technology. They're very aluminum friendly and leave a nice make clean surface.

yes but using a very fine sand paper dont utilize gritty shit. heads usually clean up pretty well with just the razor blade lightly going over them

The people mentioning sand paper aren't talking about stuff you can meet the grit on. Go to the auto body section and become the kind for wet sanding between primer coats.

Some of the roloc disks come in different dust. If it'due south to course it volition brand the surface end rougher than OEM. Rough surface is merely a starting identify for combustion gas to get-go a leak. The smoother the meliorate on MLS type gaskets. If it's cleans up with scotch brite easy then use it otherwise get a very fine cut roloc deejay. I hand lap with a flat stock aluminum block with 400+ grit lubed to get the surface finish smooth.
