What temperature oven?
When baking Yorkshires you will want to preheat the oven to 220°C fan / 425 F / 7 gas it must be very hot! Leave it to get hot whilst you prepare your batter.
What ingredients do I need?
The homemade batter for yorkshire puddings is made from basic staple ingredients. Eggs, plain flour, milk and salt & pepper is all you need.
Simply sieve 100g flour into a mixing bowl, then add 2 eggs, 100ml milk and add salt and pepper.
For quickest results, use a hand blender to mix all together until a runny smooth batter. This will only take a couple of minutes. Of course, you can hand whisk instead.
Leave the batter to rest whilst preparing and waiting for the oil to heat.
Use 1 teaspoon of Sunflower oil (although Vegetable oil/lard or meat dripping works well too) in each hole of the cupcake/muffin tin/tray.
Put the oiled tray into the oven for at least 10 minutes, allowing it to get piping hot.
Once the oil has had 10 minutes remove from the oven.
Immediately add batter to each cupcake hole.
Pour the prepared yorkshire pudding batter into each hole, until just over halfway full. Don't let the batter drop on the tray between each hole as they will end up connecting to each other!
We use a spoon to catch any drips to prevent this from happening!
The trick here is to be quick so you can so you can get the batter in the oven ASAP!
Next, place the baking tray straight back into the oven and watch the magic happen!! The yorkshires will rise before your eyes!
It only takes about 15 minutes to get the perfect scrumptious golden yorkshire pudding.
Do not remove them from the oven too early, they should be golden brown and crispy on the outside, to hold there shape.
Top tips
Over time and through questions from our readers we have the answers you need to make your Yorkshire puddings rise beautifully in the oven and stay risen when removed!
DO NOT remove from the oven too soon! Such a common mistake, they look great and have a lovely big rise in the oven but then when they come out they deflate.
Use an empty oven dedicated to the puds alone on the middle shelf. Allow's the heat to circulate easily giving the best chances for a good rise, even colour and crispness.
So remember, if you don't want your Yorkies to shrink and shrivel up.
You must give them enough, space, cooking time & high heat to crisp them up. So they can keep their high rise structure!
How to store leftovers?
To keep leftovers yorkies allow them to cool before placing in a sealable bag or container. Can be kept in the fridge for 2-3 days.
The best way to reheat leftover yorkshire puddings is in a 200°C/400°F fan oven for 3 minutes.
You can heat them in the microwave if you want, however they will shrink and go soggy! They will only need 30 seconds in the microwave to warm up.
You could also make them ahead, then pop them back in the oven for a few minutes to reheat them, whilst plating whatever you are serving them up with?
Can I freeze them?
Yes, we make 12 yorkie puds at a time, eat 6 and freeze the other half until the next time we have a roast dinner.
To freeze them, let them cool, place in a sealed bag in the freezer until needed. They will keep for 1 month.
No need to defrost yorkshire puddings, they can be cooked from frozen. Put them in the oven at 200°C/400°F fan oven for 8 minutes to reheat.
What to serve with?
Traditionally served with a Roast Beef, however, why limit this amazing side dish to just beef?! We love it with all our Roast dinners!
Add them as a trimming to your turkey Christmas dinner.
Or serve with our glazed gammon joint and homemade apple sauce.
We have been known to have our Yorkshire Puddings for Breakfast with fried eggs bacon and beans! Or the kids will add jam or chocolate spread inside.
To serve for dessert add a scoop of ice cream and drizzle Chocolate Sauce over the top. Or try with our apple sauce and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
What Yorkshire pudding tins to use?
This mixture will make 12, medium-sized in a cupcake baking tray.
If you wanted to make 6 large Yorkshire puddings, use the same batter mix and method, but cook in a deep muffin tin instead.
